Job losses and store closures for Washington farmer’s co-op

CHS Northwest has announced redundancies at five stores in Washington state

CHS Northwest is set to sell five of its stores in Washington state, affecting 57 jobs.

The farmer-owned co-op has announced it will shut down the stores with permanent redundancies to follow from 5 May, 2026. This was confirmed by an official Warn notice on 5 March, following several months of additional notices regarding the sale of multiple stores.

The five affected stores will include:

  • Ferndale Farm & Home: 1720 LaBounty Drive, Ferndale
  • Lynden Express & Gas: 300 Main Street, Lynden
  • Lynden Farm & Home: 415 Depot Road, Lynden
  • Nooksack Farm & Home: 104 Nooksack Avenue, Nooksack
  • Nooksack Express & Gas: 102 Nooksack Avenue, Nooksack

According to the CHS Northwest website, this means that three out of six CHS Farm & Home stores will close down, as well as two of its three Express & Gas stores. Other wings of its business, including propane & energy and agronomy, do not appear to be affected.

The cuts are limited to the CHS Northwest division, with CHS Inc. itself remaining the USA’s biggest co-op by turnover.

Elsewhere, CHS continues to expand: in February, it completed the modernisation of its deep water port in Galveston, Texas, which it says will improve on-time delivery of imported dry fertiliser to farmers.
