Renovation boosts sales at Heart of England Co-op store in Balsall Common

The revamped store features a new and improved frozen food section, chilled wines area, bakery and a food to go section

The Heart of England Co-operative has seen sales increase at its food store in Balsall Common after a £238,000 re-fit.

The revamped store features a new and improved frozen food section, chilled wines area, bakery and a food to go section.

According to Steve Browne, general manager of the Food Division at Heart of England, sales started to soar by 11% even before the work was completed. The largest increases occurred in the wines and spirits, food to go and frozen food sections.

He said: “The store is very widely used by the residents of Balsall Common.

“It had been 10 years or so since our last major investment in the store but even so our customers have continued to remain loyal to us throughout, even while the work was on-going and their shopping experience was being disrupted.

“Investing our profits back into our stores is our way of repaying that loyalty, so we are able to give each and every customer the best possible experience every time they shop with us. We would like to thank them for their continued loyalty and look forward to welcoming them into our new, improved store.”

The society’s food division operates a network of 32 stores across Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

In April, the Heart of England Co-operative reported an operating profit of £5.5m for the year ending 20 January 2017, up from £1.7m the previous year.
