The Co-operative College has announced a two-day interactive online event next month “to bring co-operative education to more people than ever”.
Learning Live will run from 29-30 September with the College promising innovative sessions to show how “co-operative education can act as a radical spark, bringing together individuals and communities to problem solve and develop solutions to the vast challenges currently facing society”.
With a focus on the “co-creation of knowledge and demonstration of active, democratic and inclusive learning approaches”, the programme will offer 12 sessions.
- Co-operatives and the Climate Emergency – led by environmental educator Ruth Hayward, this session will explore how the climate crisis exacerbates existing inequalities, and makes the case for why co-operatives, as ethical businesses built on a shared set of values and principles, are perfectly placed to take action
- Social Action Showcase – a behind the scenes look at what goes into facilitating successful participant-led social action; participants can learn how to better engage and enable local communities through co-production and collaborative learning
- Co-ops and young people – a look at how the College’s UK project work supports young people during challenging times; it will also show how you can can get involved in its future youth work, either as a partner or participant.
Dr Cilla Ross, principal and chief executive at the College, said: “We’re extremely excited to launch our free Learning Live event, particularly as the online format will enable us to welcome attendees from across the globe without the usual travel and geographic barriers.
“At a time of such change, both locally and globally, we know how crucial education is in ensuring we’re all well equipped to meet the challenges ahead. Co-operative learning is done in collaboration with people, not done to, and it’s this spirit of working together that will run through the whole event.”
There will also be a number of free taster courses, including Co-ops and the Sustainable Development Goals, Co-operative Values and Principles and Co-ops Worldwide.
Everyone who signs up for Learning Live will also be eligible for 10% off the College’s Online Anytime Short Courses.
