Flowers and freebies at Scotmid Co-op revamped store launch

‘I’m sure all our customers will really enjoy shopping here with all the improvements that have been made’

Scotmid Co-operative has celebrated the relaunch of one of its revamped stores with goodie bags for customers and a bouquet of flowers for a longstanding colleague.

The Old Mill Road store in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, has undergone a complete modernisation, incorporating the latest in refrigeration and energy-saving tech, and a new counter arrangement that includes an expanded Food to Go range.

The store has also extended its range of fresh food options and added new Costa coffee and Slushee machines.

Hundreds of local people queued up for the re-opening of the store and received goodie bags as they entered. Staff member Kate Connor – who has worked at the store since February 1974 – was presented with a bouquet by regional business manager Frank McCarron to celebrate her long service.

She said: “The local area and the store have both changed massively over the past 45 years, but the job is still the same – serving customers and getting on with my workmates – and I really enjoy it; the atmosphere is always friendly.

“The store looks amazing and I’m sure all our customers will really enjoy shopping here with all the improvements that have been made.

“It’s a different store altogether from the one that was here when I started 45 years ago – different parts have been rebuilt – but it has always been a good place to work.”
