Southern Co-op asking Alton residents to nominate a good cause

The initiative forms part of the co-op’s Love your Neighbourhood campaign

With a new Southern Co-op funeral home due to open in Alton, local residents have been asked to nominate a good cause for the co-op to support.

The initiative forms part of the co-op’s Love your Neighbourhood campaign, which helps groups working to create greener, safer, healthier and more inclusive neighbourhoods. The support ranges from donations of goods and fundraising partnerships, to volunteering and cash donations of between £50 and £1,000.

Jessica Hughes, community investment manager at Southern Co-op, said: “Every year we are able to support a wide variety of charities and good causes though our Love Your Neighbourhood programme. This could be anything from local schools and men’s sheds to hospitals and mental health charities.

“Our colleagues across our retail stores and funeral homes have a passion for helping their local communities so we like to start how we mean to go on. Being part of Southern Co-op, this funeral home will benefit from our community engagement programme which includes opportunities for donations, volunteering and fundraising.”

The new funeral home at 71 High Street will open on 25 March, adding to the Southern Co-op’s 250 food and funeral branches across the south of England.
