Organic co-op Omsco wins big at Global Cheese Awards

‘Securing access to overseas markets is particularly important for Omsco as it allows us to provide members with a stable and sustainable return for their products’

Omsco, the Organic Milk Suppliers Co-op, has received six awards for its USDA-certified Organic Kingdom Cheddar range at the 2019 Global Cheese Awards.

The UK’s largest farmer-owned and farmer-run organic dairy co-operative, which supplies over 70% of the UK’s organic Cheddar, was awarded three gold results in the categories of UK organic cheese, finest mature Cheddar and cheese for export in commercial packaging.

The awards – which have been running for more than 155 years – provide producers and retailers with a platform to showcase their latest and best offerings. With fierce competition in every category, the event engages world-class judges to select the winner from thousands of entries from across the globe.

“This is a fantastic achievement for both the company and our 250 farmer members across the UK,” said Michael Pollak, brand manager at Omsco.

“The awards pay tribute to the high-quality range we produce for export and the skills of our cheesemaking partner, Wyke Farms.

“Securing access to overseas markets is particularly important for Omsco as it allows us to provide members with a stable and sustainable return for their products.”

Along with the gold results, Omsco was also named best in category for its organic cheese, was crowned UK reserve champion, and was awarded bronze for its extra mature UK cheddar.

Formed in 1994 by five like-minded dairy farmers, Omsco has grown to become the UK’s leading exporter of organic cheese and the only large-scale European producer of USDA-certified organic milk and dairy products.
