Midcounties Co-operative is offering grants of up to £2,000 to local charities and voluntary organisations that provide services and meet the needs of the local community.

The society has been sponsoring local community groups through its Community Fund since launching it in 2011. The fund was designed for community groups making a difference to the local community.

Interested groups, who need to apply by 8 August, must operate locally to one of the co-operative’s stores.

Maxine Sharman, head of community engagement at Midcounties, said: “Community groups and voluntary organisations provide excellent educational and support services to the local community and it is important that they are financially secure so they can continue to help as many people as possible.

“We are committed to giving back to the communities we work in and we want to provide grants that help create long-term resources that will benefit communities in the future.”

In previous years, the society has awarded grants to Breaking Free Female Support Project to help fund counselling, salaries and the cost of the premises and the Swindon and District branch of Parkinson’s UK, which received support to hold balance and exercise sessions for sufferers.

After the closing date, the judging panel, which includes members of Midcounties’ membership strategy committee, will assess all applications. The presentation of the award cheques takes place over a two-week period commencing 24 November.
