The UK’s first tenant and employee co-owned mutual housing society, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) was awarded the Investor in People Silver Award.

While only 16% of all firms in the UK are accredited by Investors in People (IiP), Rochdale Boroughwide Housing received the Silver Award, which demonstrates its commitment as a co-owned mutual organisation to developing and empowering employees.

Although it is unusual for new businesses to achieve higher than a bronze accreditation, RBH was received the silver award, which shows that employees have made progress together in improving practices throughout the organisation.

Angela Lomax, chair of the organisation’s HR committee, said: “As a relatively new organisation, we are delighted and proud to have achieved the silver standard. It is a testament to our commitment to continuously improve and to the way that our employees and residents have worked together through a period of significant change. This is a positive result for RBH and the recommendations set us on the path to achieve the gold standard next time.”
