Claire Davies, has been appointed as secretary of the Co-operative Group.

Reporting directly to chair Ursula Lidbetter, Ms Davies will join the Group in March, following the retirement of Moria Lees in December. In the interim-period, Harry Baines, who until the end of 2012 was Ms Davies’ predecessor at Lloyds, will be acting secretary.

Ms Davies is a solicitor who has more than 27 years’ experience, mainly in the financial services sector, having held a variety of legal, compliance and company secretarial roles at Ernst & Young, The Woolwich and Legal & General. She joined Lloyds Bank in 2009 as deputy company secretary, becoming company secretary in 2012.

Group general counsel Alistair Asher said: “I’m delighted to welcome Claire to the Co-operative Group. I know she will be a great addition to the senior team, especially as we work our way through the crucial Governance Review the board is undertaking.”
