Football fans to discuss supporter ownership at Summit

Supporters of fan ownership in football from across Europe will come together for the Supporters Direct Summit in June.

Supporters of fan ownership in football from across Europe will come together for the Supporters Direct Summit in June.

The event takes place on 22 June at St. George’s Park National Football Centre, near Burton, and will include an opening plenary and various workshops with expert panels.

Malcolm Clarke, Chair, Football Supporters’ Federation; and Brian Burgess, Chair, Supporters Direct will lead the opening plenary. While other speakers include David Bernstein, Chairman of the Football Association and Andy Burnham, Labour MP for Leigh, former Secretary of State for Sport and ex-Supporters Direct Chair.

Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins will join a discussion on financial sustainability in football, while Kevin Miles, Chief Executive, Football Supporters' Federation, will discuss the tackling of discrimination through football. 

Tim Connolly, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, at the supporter-owned American Football club Green Bay Packers, will talk about fan/member engagement and Sylvia Schenk, Senior Advisor for Sport at Transparency International, will discuss transparency in supporters' trusts.

Jointly organised by Supporters Direct and the Football Supporters Federation, the topics covered in the workshops include football finance, fan engagement, sustainability, transparency, women in football and asset protection. 

Supporters Direct's AGM will also be held on 21st June, while the Football Supporters Federation will be on the following day.

The Summit will end with a final plenary and question time with an expert panel comprising of Tim Connolly, Huw Jenkins and Andy Burnham.
