Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls, called for the support of mutuals and co-operatives in his speech at the Labour Party Conference today in Manchester, UK.
Mr Balls, who attended the Co-operative Party conference earlier in the month, also praised the Co-op/Labour Party candidate for Central Manchester Lucy Powell, and urged members to elect her as the first female MP ever for the area.
The Shadow Chancellor will also be attending the Co-operative Party drinks reception, as the Master of Ceremonies, at the Labour Party Conference on Tuesday 2 October from 10pm till midnight in Charter 1, Manchester Central.
The reception will celebrate the relationship between the Co-operative Party, the Labour Party and the Co-operative Group and will raise funds to invest in the global microfinance scheme Lend With Care, a scheme by Care International.
The Co-operative Party is holding several events across the Labour conference, including: the End the Legal Loan Sharks campaign training with Stella Creasy MP, Labour & Co-operative MP and Karin Christiansen, General Secretary of the Co-operative Party, and Education: Taking a lesson from Co-operation, with Stephen Twigg MP, Shadow Education Secretary.
