The Small Producers Symbol, a Fair Trade certification & product label launched in recent years by the major Fair Trade producer association worldwide, Latin American and Caribbean Network of Small Fair Trade Producers (CLAC), announced news this week about its conference in Ecuador November 23-24, and its new producer, buyer and certification participants.

During the course of this year, 6 new Small Producers’ Organizations have been joined trough their certification by the Small Producers’ Symbol, namely: CEPCO from México, ALDEA GLOBAL y PRODECOOP from Nicaragua, ASOBAGRI y CCDA from Guatemala and SOL&CAFÉ from Perú. Now, we count 19 Small Producers’ Organizations certified from 8 countries. In the case of buyers, this year 4 have been additionally registered, namely: EQUAL EXCHANGE, JUST COFFEE COOPERATIVE and DEAN´S BEANS from the U.S. and DISCOVERY ORGANICS from Canada; as intermediaries: COOPERATIVE COFFEES from the U.S. and SATI from France and a Maquila Company which is MAISON JOBIN from France, adding all together 10 registered companies from 3 countries.

In the case of certification entities, two have been added: MAYACERT from Guatemala and BCS ÖKO GARANTIE from Germany, IMO CONTROL L.A is in the process of authorization. Certimex y Biolatina had already been authorized.

We are very pleased to announce the Second International Small Producers’ Symbol Gathering, to be held in the next 23 and 24 November, in Quito, Ecuador. Moreover, the 25th there will be an optional visit to organized small quinoa and aromatic herbs producers whit SPP certification in Riobamba, Chimborazo.
