Howard Bowers Day in October annually raises money to advance food cooperatives, and this year the funds raised will again be targeted to groups that are new or about to open.  In the past 5 such events, food co-ops have generated over $37,000 for the Howard Bowers Fund, which then went out in 31 grants to 30 startups.

Participating food co-ops devote 1 percent of sales on a self-chosen day to the Howard Bowers Fund, which funds education and training for development of U.S. food co-ops.  The Fund is managed by the Cooperative Development Foundation (www.cdf.coop), which also raises funds for other sectors and arenas of cooperative development, including the Disaster Recovery Fund.  For more on Howard Bowers Day, contact [email protected].
