The West Belconnen Health Co-op is expanding and will set up a new bulk-billing clinic in Chisholm, Canberra, helping to address the shortage of general practitioners in the Tuggeranong Valley.

Member raised capital of $100,000 was matched by Canberra’s Community Bendigo Bank branches, with the ACT Government adding an additional $200,000 in funding.

''This initiative is great news for Tuggeranong residents, who will benefit from a bulk-billing GP service in a convenient location,'' said ACT Community Services Minister Joy Burch.

''The ACT Labor government is proud to support this proven service that furthers this government's policy objectives of bringing affordable health services to where people need them.''

West Belconnen has around 15,000 members with access to 11 doctors in 4 clinics across Canberra’s north. Members pay a small annual fee to have access to bulk billed services. Chairman Michael Pilbrow says the practice will have space for four GP’s and offer similar services to other clinics managed by the co-op.

"I would like to thank the Canberra's Community Bendigo Bank branches and their Chairman, Jayson Hinder, for their great support and encouragement for the Co-op model and our expansion into Tuggeranong,” said Pilbrow.

"I would also like to thank Minister Joy Burch and the ACT Government for helping us get the new Chisholm centre off the ground."
