ICMIF member, Coop-Seguros, has recently been ranked number nine in the Top 50 Best Employers to Work For in the Dominican Republic business publication Revista Mercado. They were ranked ninth in the “300 Employees and Under” category. The organisation was praised in particular for its management training and succession planning whereby managers are trained to be able to step in and substitute for one another. Coop-Seguros are the only cooperative to appear in the rankings.

This was the sixth time that the survey was carried out by the business publication Revista Mercado. The survey is carried out online and is completed by employees of organisations throughout the Dominican Republic.

General Manager, Arlene Sarbaris, says “This ranking is a demonstration of the quality of our team here and the dedication of our managers in making our organisation one of national importance, not just as a cooperative organisation but for the Dominican Republic’s insurance market. Our Learning and Development and Succession plans are a key contributor to our recent success….We will continue to recruit and train the very best people so that we can continue to give excellent service to the best sector – the cooperative sector!”

Arlene recently contributed an article on the cooperative business model to the Revista Mercado publication entitled Together we are stronger () (pdf, 335.43 kB). In it Arlene talks about how cooperation brings social and democratic inclusion to people and allows them to take charge of their own destiny.

Coop-Seguros mission is to provide all types of insurance services to the social organisations, cooperatives and not for profit groups in the Dominican Republic; as well as serving the general public with these services and providing excellent levels of service to their members.
