A Manchester, UK co-operative has been nominated as Best Food and Drink Retail Outlet in the Manchester Food and Drink Festival awards.
Unicorn Grocery, based in South Manchester, is an organic food producer that was set up in 1996 and has become a firm favourite of local residents.
Kellie Bubble, from the grocery said they were “very happy” to be nominated for the award and it was fitting during the International Year of Co-operatives “we see it as a celebration of our thriving co-op and the wonderful wider world of co-operative trade.”
Unicorn also works with co-operatives such as the Handmade Bakery, which was recently featured on BBC Breakfast.
Kellie explained: “We work with many great companies, but there is always a special place for other co-operatives. Co-ops aren't just out to be a successful business, at their core they strive to do this while making or providing the best product they can based on good, honest principles.”
The co-operative is up against five other retailers in the Food and Drink awards and has had previous nominations.
Unicorn prides itself on its local produce and quality food. “Unicorn is here to offer our local community a good range of decent ingredients at an affordable price. Everyone should be able to eat good food,” explained Kellie.
