Fair Trade USA’s Draft Trade Standard covers the supply chain partners that buy and sell Fair Trade Certified products sourced from producers certified by Fair Trade USA approved certifiers (Scientific Certification Systems and FLO CERT). The objective of the Draft Trade Standard is to ensure that traders help enable the social and economic development of Fair Trade producers. Additionally, the Trade Standard comprises requirements about the handling and commercialization of the Fair Trade Certified products in order to ensure that the consumer can trust that her/ his purchase of the labeled Fair Trade product has the benefit that she/he intended.
Public comments can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese through August 3, 2012. FTUSA intends to publish its final Trade Standard in spring 2013.
