Two co-operatives set for joint ‘egg’ venture

Two American co-operatives are joining forces in the creation of a new speciality egg venture.

Land O’ Lakes and Eggland’s Best, Inc are two of the USA’s biggest co-operatives and they will be working together on a new branded speciality egg with each organisation taking a 50 per cent stake.

Land O’Lakes is the nation’s second largest co-operative and Eggland’s Best, Inc markets America’s number one branded egg.

They will both benefit from sales and marketing by combining the expertise and resources of the two co-operatives.

Charles Lanktree, President and CEO of Eggland's Best, said: “Increasingly, consumers are looking for healthy choices in their diet – and eggs provide a high-protein, low-fat option. This is a growing food category, and we believe that by joining forces, Land O'Lakes and Eggland's Best can serve customers and consumers even more effectively.”

The Eggland’s Best brand has won a number of taste and nutrition awards and over the past 15 years has achieved a double-digit yearly sales growth.

Chris Policinski, President and CEO of Land O’Lakes explained: “This joint venture brings together two leading brands on the egg business that are known for providing retail customers and consumers with products of the highest quality, as will as strong operational support and brands with unique marketplace attributes.”

The venture will allow Land O’Lakes to expand into the growing speciality branded egg category. It is a national, farmer-owned food and agricultural co-operative and does business in 50 states and more than 60 countries.
