Paraguay: Cooperatives are effective during times of crisis

The global cooperative movement has not only survived in the twentieth century but also has proven effective in times of major financial crisis.

Studies of experiences from different countries tell us that the cooperatives have played an important role in the economies, working with more emphasis when the financial world was paralyzed in more developed countries.

The International Year of Cooperatives 2012 is a clear tribute to the work of thousands of people, associated to collective enterprises, which have and will continue contributing to their communities to enhance our quality of life.

From the Americas region, we join to the world to launch a single voice recognizing the great contribution of cooperatives to the education, culture, health and all forms of work association that contributes for world peace, having a positive impact in the welfare of millions people. This is achieved through the practice of values of mutual help, responsibility, democracy, equality, and solidarity.
