Governor Brian Schweitzer (D-Montana) says he will support an application to create a Montana Health Cooperative.
The Governor met with former State Auditor John Morrison Tuesday morning to discuss Morrison’s plan to create a co-op.
If approved, the cooperative would operate under the Affordable Care Act. Morrison says it would offer Montana consumers an alternative health insurance option.
He says the Montana Health Co-op would compete with other insurance companies.
“It’s a new member owned, member controlled entity that would be non-profit and would function more along the lines of electrical co-ops or telephone co-ops,” Morrison told the Governor.
