Capricorn is a member-owned cooperative in the automotive parts industry, offering services to members that simplify and support the running of their business. Members also become shareholders of Capricorn, and receive dividends when declared. Formed 37 years ago in Western Australia, the organisation has today grown to in excess of 13,000 members across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Capricorn acts as a financial intermediary between its members and over 2,000 industry suppliers, receiving instant credit and one consolidated monthly bill. Capricorn operates very much in the cooperative spirit, with all stakeholders working together for mutual benefit.
After hearing many expressions of dissatisfaction from its members about insurance, the Board of Capricorn Society Limited decided to seek an alternative and in 2003 Capricorn Mutual Limited was formed to offer a commercially feasible alternative to insurance exclusively for members of Capricorn Society Limited in Australia and New Zealand. Capricorn Mutual is not an insurance company, it is a discretionary mutual operated for the benefit of its members.
