Co-ops lend a creative hand to freelancers

A roadshow promoting how co-operatives can help create opportunities for freelancers who face a difficult job market is set to travel across the country over the next few...

The free events, organised by Co-operatives UK, is supported by a new guide, factsheets and website which provides advice for freelancers and graduates on setting up a co-operative.

Leading figures from the creative sector, including Harry Pearce from the world’s largest independent design consultancy; and Manchester DJ Dave Haslam, will help to highlight the co-operative alternative at the events. Guests can also network with co-ops from across the creative sector. 

Designed for freelancers, creative graduates, practitioners and advisers, the creative co-operatives events to be held in London, Salford, Bristol and Cardiff, feature a programme of speakers, business advice and networking opportunities for all those interested in co-operatives and collaborating.

Ed Mayo, Secretary General of Co-operatives UK, will deliver keynote speeches about the benefits of co-operation, collaboration and co-working within the creative industries. Speaking ahead of the roadshow, Mr Mayo said: “There is such a good fit between co-operatives and the creative sector. Whether you’re into fashion or film, advertising or animation, Creative Co-operatives will be an informative and lively way to find out about co-operatives and meet potential collaborators. 

“Participants will leave with ideas, contacts and a guide to starting a co-operative in the creative industries.”
