ICAExpo 2010 — organised by the International Co-operative Alliance — is centered around the Movement’s principle of co-operating with co-operatives. Businesses from around the world will come together in Bangalore from December 8th–10th to promote their products, services or activities.
The fair, which is set to be held in Manchester in 2012, is also a platform to promote the co-operative difference and will give international co-operatives the opportunity to enter the Asian market.
Luiz Branco, President of ICAExpo, has praised the support from the ICA’s regional office for Asia and the Pacific, as well as the organisation’s members in India. He told the News: “We are expecting the presence of more than 15,000 visitors, 1,500 specialised buyers and 200 hosted buyers.”
He added: “Following the success of the first Expo in Lisbon two years ago, the ICA believes the event is one of the best ways to highlight the co-operative movement’s unique business model of social justice and commercial success.”
The Expo has sold over 60 per cent of exhibition space and the organisers have called for co-operatives to attend the event to help promote further growth of co-operative movements in developing countries.
Added Mr Branco: “ICAExpo is an opportunity for strong and profitable co-operatives to act in solidarity with fellow co-operatives in the developing world by sponsoring their participation in EXPO 2010.
“This could lead to profitable relationships through establishing links with new African and Asian co-operatives or could cement relationships already established. It would have a particular resonance with our already well established support for Fairtrade.”
