The News was recognised for its contributions to the Co-operative Movement in the United Kingdom and the world as the oldest co-operatively-owned newspaper, according to judges at the ceremony in Geneva last week.
DotCoop, sponsor of the .coop domain name, revealed the winning co-ops as part of the International Co-operative Alliance’s General Assembly in Switzerland.
Winners from the main categories included Indian Farmers Fertilizer Co-operative, a fertilizer production and distribution co-operative in the large business category; National Co-operative Grocers Association, a trade association for USA food co-ops in the medium-sized section; and Pachamama Coffee Co-operative, based in the USA from the small business group.
The Global Awards are given to those that demonstrate a strong commitment to the co-op business model.
DotCoop also awarded honorable mentions to Cabot Creamery Co-operative of the USA and Crédit Coopératif of France (large business); the Phone Co-op of the UK and the Wedge Community Co-op of the USA (medium-sized business); and CAC Santa Maria Magdalena of Peru and Federacion Nacional de Co-operativas de Servicios Sanitarios of Chile (small business).
