Temporary store starts to take shape

Midlands Co-op has completed the first phase of the construction of the society’s temporary supermarket in Oakham.

The unit has been installed in the car park of the former Burley Road Superstore, which was destroyed by fire on July 29th. The temporary building is now being fitted out and merchandised for the planned opening at the end of the month. Tony Carroll, General Manager for Retail, commented: “We were determined to be up and trading in Oakham by Christmas. Fortunately our request for planning consent was not delayed and our staff and external contractors were keen to help us meet our deadline. We know from the feedback we have received from our loyal customers and members since the fire, that they will welcome us back with open arms.”
