Youth film gets glitzy premiere

Last week saw the big screen premiere of The School That Roared — this year’s movie from the British Youth Film Academy (BYFA), in association with The Co-operative.

The film stars Todd Carty (from Eastenders and The Bill), Hale & Pace, Norman Lovett and Phil Cool and has been produced with professional film makers alongside students from various colleges across the north west of England.

The BYFA screened this year’s film at the Printworks, Manchester, for the friends and family of those involved. The event began with a red carpet reception with leading actor Todd Carty (pictured).

The film, an action comedy adverture, is about a school that declares independence from the United Kingdom and sets up its own government.

Michael Fairclough, Head of Community and Campaigns at The Co-operative, said: “This is the third year that the United Region has supported the BYFA and the second film we have helped them produce.

“The BYFA offer some exciting opportunities for students to gain practical hands-on movie-making experience and we are so pleased to be able to support them and all the young people involved.”
