THE Co-operative Pharmacy has acquired seven new branches in South and West Wales, after buying Gareth James Limited.

It has bought a 100% stake in the business, for an undisclosed amount, and in doing so reinforced its position as the largest multiple pharmacy chain in Wales, with more than 100 branches.

The Gareth James pharmacies now owned by The Co-operative Group are in Pontardawe, Milford Haven, Llanybydder, Gowerton, Gorseinon, Aberystwyth and Llanelli. All 87 staff will be retained.

Ailsa Jones, The Co-operative Pharmacy&#039s regional operations manager, said: "We are delighted to add these branches, and their staff, to our extensive network in Wales.

"We pride ourselves on playing a key role in the Welsh communities we serve, and are dedicated to providing the highest standard of service. We will build on the strong local presence these pharmacies already have."
