A SPECIAL General Meeting to discuss the proposed amalgamation of Raunds Co-op with Midlands Society is to be held on July 5th.

Providing at least two-thirds of the society&#039s members present at the meeting at the town&#039s Saxon Hall vote in favour of the merger, a confirmatory meeting will be arranged for the end of July with the proposed transfer of engagements taking place around mid-August.

Chief Executive Keith Tindall, who is planning to retire in the summer, told the News he is hopeful the merger will be approved, but said he understood that some members might have reservations about seeing the society&#039s name disappear.

Said Mr Tindall: "The reality is we are a small society and the pressures on us are increasing all the time. The business environment is changing for co-operatives as it is for everyone else and I believe the majority of members will see the benefits of joining with a much larger society."

Mr Tindall, who has been Chief Officer at Raunds for seven years, is a former Chief Executive of the old Coventry and District Society and started his career with Kent Co-op.
