CO-OPERATIVE Group Chair Bob Burlton is to step down from the post immediately after the Group’s Half Yearly Meeting in October.

The former Midcounties and Oxford, Swindon & Gloucester Society Chief Executive, who played a pivotal role in the negotiations which will result in the amalgamation between the Group and United Co-operatives next month, will continue to be a Group Director and Chair of Co-operative Financial Services.

A brief statement issued on behalf of the Group said that the Board would appoint a Chair-Designate next month to allow for “a planned and orderly transition”.

The statement went on: “The Chair-Designate will take immediate responsibility for chairing the Review Board, which is to be set up on amalgamation to consider the best democratic structure for the enlarged society.”
