SOCIETIES across the UK have reported a bumper Fairtrade Fortnight, which finished on March 11th.
The Co-operative Group announced record sales of £2.2 million – up 47 per cent on last year.
United Co-operatives reported a much more substantial increase of Fairtrade sales up 157 per cent compared to 2006.
Midcounties said sales increased by 97 per cent year-on-year when offering 20 per cent off Fairtrade products. Midlands Co-op increased by 46 per cent on last year, while East of England reported a three-fold increase of Fairtrade products being sold compared to a normal week.
