THE Co-operative Group is set to buy 21 pharmacy branches from Alliance Boots plc for an undisclosed sum, while a further three have been bought by Lincolnshire Co-operative.
The Group ? already the UK&#039s third largest pharmacy chain with 433 branches nationwide ? is acquiring outlets being sold following the merger of Boots Group PLC and Alliance UniChem Plc and the deal is expected to be completed in March when around 170 Alliance Boots staff will transfer employment to the Group.
Co-op Group Chief Executive Martin Beaumont said: "This is a very significant acquisition for the Group. We are delighted to add these outlets to our portfolio of branches. In recent years our pharmacy business has grown rapidly, and we continue to have ambitious plans for future expansion and development." Further details in the Co-op News, published January 23rd.
