THE UK's big two co-operative giants have reported record food sales over the crucial Christmas and New Year period.
Co-operative Group sales were up 6.1 per cent over the two peak weeks to December 30th, with convenience stores up 9.3 per cent. United Co-operatives announced like for like sales increases amounting to 6.5 per cent for the four weeks to the end of the year.
Guy McCracken, the Co-op Group's Chief Executive, Food Retail, told the News the Group had a "very successful" Christmas trading period.
Highlights included: The biggest day's sales in its history – £ 17m on Saturday December 23.
