A GROUP of employees from Mandate Clothing, a subsidiary of the Co-operative Group, has raised &#163 2,500 for CARE International UK by taking on an outdoor challenge set by the charity.

The staff members from the uniform supplier, based in Gateshead, joined 15 other teams from fashion industry businesses for the CARE Challenge which entailed canoeing, biking and hiking their way around Coniston in the South Lakes within a target time of 12 hours.

Mandate&#039s accountant Claire Scott led the team who managed to keep their spirits and enthusiasm up, regardless of the wet weather, and completed the tough task in less than 12 hours.

A total of &#163 55,000 was raised by all the teams involved and the money will go to CARE International&#039s work which helps over 70 of the world&#039s poorest countries. Projects include supporting primary health care and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Said Claire: "This was a very tough challenge for us but we all enjoyed taking part and had a lot of fun. We&#039d like to thank our colleagues, suppliers, friends and family who sponsored us and helped us raise this fantastic sum."
