THE Co-operative Group has increased a Community Dividend grant to Nottinghamshire Cares for Kids so that more school children can benefit from a free healthy breakfast.
Since awarding an initial £ 1,000 grant to the charity, which funds school breakfast clubs, local Co-op committee members have decided to increase the award to £ 3,000 ? enough to fund Greenwood Junior School's breakfast club for an entire year.
Co-op members joined children from the school at a breakfast event at Nottingham Forest Football Club to celebrate Nottinghamshire Cares for Kids providing breakfast to more than 1,000 children in Nottingham every day.
Paul Griffiths, assistant headteacher at Greenwood Junior School, said: "The Co-op's support for our school breakfast club is much appreciated by the staff and the children. This not only gives them a healthy start to the day, they also benefit from the social interaction."
