A NEW alliance linking the Co-op Movement&#039s buying group, CRTG, with the Spar chain of convenience stores has been announced.

The initiative will focus on targeted areas of own label products and will be managed by CRTG, which currently handles over &#163 5 billion worth of food sales on behalf of over 3,000 Co-op stores nationwide. Spar operates 2,742 neighbourhood stores with retail food sales of &#163 2.5 billion.

By pooling their own label volumes in the identified areas, the two retailers say they will derive valuable commercial benefits. The Co-op and Spar own brand products to be bought jointly as a result of the initiative are as follows:

Paper (Toilet, Kitchen, Facial), Foil and Wraps (Foil, Film, Liners), Cooking Oils, Olive Oils, Fats, Pasta (Dry), Sauces and Pickles, Canned Fruit, Fruit Juice (Ambient and Chilled), Frozen Foods (Vegetables, Potato, Ice Cream), Carbonates, Household and Laundry, Spirits, Water, Canned Vegetables, Eggs.
