BOB BURLTON is to step down as Chief Executive of Midcounties Co-op this month and hand over the reins to CEO Designate Ben Reid.

But Mr Burlton, chairman of the Co-operative Group and CFS and an influential figure in the Movement for nearly 20 years, will not be retiring just yet. He plans to maintain his Co-op involvement by working part-time for his society and also focusing on other projects with the Group and the International Co-operative Alliance.

A former chair of Co-operatives UK, Mr Burlton was Congress President in 1999 and a member of the 2000-2001 Co-operative Commission. He is currently President of the ICA&#039s consumer co-operatives sector.

Mr Burlton told the News: "It has been a great honour and privilege to work with so many wonderful people at Midcounties Co-op and its predecessor societies. I will be sad to move on, but I do so to new, exciting challenges. I am confident Midcounties will continue to flourish under the leadership of Ben Reid, in whom I have great confidence."

Said Mr Reid: "Bob has done a fantastic job for Midcounties and been a great servant to the Movement. I&#039m looking forward to building upon the solid base he has created."
