LOCAL schoolchildren took on star status to officially open Stanstead Abbott's eagerly awaited £ 1 million new Co-operative Group supermarket, which has created 15 new jobs.
Pupils of St Andrew's V.C. Primary School performed the ribbon cutting ceremony and were presented with a donation of £ 250 for school funds by store manager Kim Bostwick.
"The Co-op provides a much-valued service in the area and this substantial investment endorses our commitment to serving the community with the best in modern shopping facilities. I am sure shoppers will be really delighted with their new store," said Kim.
At 2,000 sq feet, the store is double the size of the previous Stanstead Abbotts Co-op which closed earlier this year and offers new facilities and services including a cash machine. The Post Office, which has been situated in temporary premises on the High Street, has also moved to the new store.
