CO-OPERATIVE Group Northern Region membership officer Madhusudhan Roy has received a Community Award for his work Burnley.

Interfaith group Building Bridges Burnley presented Roy with a certificate in recognition of his work to bring the different communities in Burnley together through events including a celebration of One World Week and a Community Question Time encouraging local people to voice their concerns and hopes for the town.

"We congratulate and thank Madhusudhan Roy and the Pennine Committee of the Co-op Group for helping us bring together people of different faiths and backgrounds, and for the support they have give us in this vital work. The events they have organised have been well attended and very much appreciated and given a new and different dimension to helping bring communities together," said Colin Wills, secretary of Building Bridges Burnley.

Commenting on the award, Roy said, "I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Co-operative Group and look forward to working with Building Bridges and other community organisations in Burnley in the future."
