STAFF from Midlands Co-op in Oldbury got into a lather when they took part in a charity car wash.
Volunteers from Midlands Co-op's new Brandhall supermarket, which opened last month, collected £ 120 when they got their buckets and sponges out to raise money for the society's corporate charity, CLIC Sargent, which helps children with cancer and leukaemia and their families.
On the same day, the store also supported nearby Brandhall Community Hall by providing food and drink for the hall's official opening and it presented the centre with a community notice-board.
Midlands Co-op has invested £ 1.4 million in the supermarket, which employs 35 new staff. It sells a wide range of products, such as snacks and sandwiches, wines and spirits and an extensive range of fresh food. There's also an in-store bakery, news and magazines kiosk and a non-food section, offering seasonal goods.
CLIC Sargent is Midlands Co-op's staff elected charity for 2005. The society has already beaten its original target of raising £ 100,000 for the charity and now has its sights set on achieving over £ 150,000.
