CO-OPERATIVE Group Pharmacy's Gareth Clowes pedalled for pounds when he and a friend raised charity cash by cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End.
They covered the 988 miles in just two weeks, and raised £ 1,000 for Cancer Research.
Gareth, who normally gets around in a Mercedes as regional sector manager for the North West and South Yorkshire, covered about 60 miles each day with his friend Robin Hendy.
'We were just looking for a challenge, something to stretch us and that we hadn't done before," said Gareth, who lives in Oswestry. 'We decided to give it a go. I did some training but I'm not really a cyclist – I'd never ridden more than 30 miles before."
The intrepid pair didn't even take the most direct route, choosing instead to divert to places of interest along the way.
'We wanted to enjoy it and spend some time seeing different places, rather than just slog the whole way. We were lucky with the weather and it really was fantastic."
