CO-OPERATIVE Group Pharmacy&#039s Gareth Clowes pedalled for pounds when he and a friend raised charity cash by cycling from John O&#039Groats to Land&#039s End.
They covered the 988 miles in just two weeks, and raised &#163 1,000 for Cancer Research.
Gareth, who normally gets around in a Mercedes as regional sector manager for the North West and South Yorkshire, covered about 60 miles each day with his friend Robin Hendy.
&#039We were just looking for a challenge, something to stretch us and that we hadn&#039t done before," said Gareth, who lives in Oswestry. &#039We decided to give it a go. I did some training but I&#039m not really a cyclist – I&#039d never ridden more than 30 miles before."
The intrepid pair didn&#039t even take the most direct route, choosing instead to divert to places of interest along the way.
&#039We wanted to enjoy it and spend some time seeing different places, rather than just slog the whole way. We were lucky with the weather and it really was fantastic."
