TOO many people can be put off from exercising by ‘designer' gyms with high fees and an expensive fashion culture.
"In some cases the motivation is more for social ‘posing' than getting fit," says Leeds Co-op.
And that's why Phase Four of this year's Healthy Living campaign is now focusing on gym fitness … DIY style.
It's the latest part of Leeds Co-op's 12-month campaign which has spotlighted exercise, diet, nutrition and cooking issues to persuade people to "Choose a Healthier Lifestyle".
"Gyms offer many advantages but they're not the be-all and end-all," says Sarah Hill, Leeds Co-op's General Manager, Membership and Co-operative Affairs. "One of the best gyms can be your own home.
"Home is open all hours – you can pick the time that suits best, exercise at leisure, dress how you want and choose your own music or video film while you're working out.
