THE Co-operative Group won one top award and was nominated for three others at the prestigious Greater Manchester Social Responsibility Awards ceremony.
The Group won the "responsible business" category at the event at Lancashire County Cricket Club's Old Trafford headquarters.
The award, sponsored by the Charities Trust, was in recognition of the Group's stance on issues including responsible retailing, animal testing and Fairtrade, and innovations such as degradable plastic carrier bags and Braille labelling on packaging.
As well as winning the responsible business award, the Group was also shortlisted in the "community", "environment" and "health" categories.
Stephen Youd-Thomas, the Co-operative Group's head of social goals strategy, said: "Social responsibility is key to the way the Co-operative Group operates, and we are very proud to have had our work recognised by the business community of Manchester."
