HOLLIS SMALLMAN has been appointed as Scotmid's President.
He takes over the position from John Cronan who is retiring after 11 years.
Mr Smallman (62) who was born in Edinburgh, and now lives in Kirkliston, has a long relationship with the society having commenced employment with the former St Cuthberts Co-operative on 12th May 1958 as an invoice clerk.
From that position he progressed throughout the business to hold a number of senior positions including Manager of Credit, Share Capital and Dividend Departments, Office Manager and Commercial Services Manager.
In 1998 he was appointed to the Senior Management Team within the business and became Head of Corporate Affairs where he oversaw marketing, advertising and public relations.
He remained in this position until his early retirement in February 2003. He was elected to the East Area Board in 1986 and to the Central Board of Directors in 1996, and held the position of Area Board Treasurer from 1996 to 2005.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Smallman said: "It is a great honour to be elected to the position of President of the society. I look forward to working with Chief Executive, John Brodie, the members of the Board and the Management team to continue the work of my predecessor John Cronan and build upon the recent successes and growth that has occurred within the business."
John Cronan said: "I wish Hollis all the best and am sure that he will take the society forward as it continues to grow. I have seen many changes in the last 11 years and was proud to be a part of this business as it evolved and developed but I am now looking forward to my retirement and spending more time with my family and friends."
John Brodie, Chief Executive of Scotmid said: "Hollis has an excellent knowledge of the business having spent most of his working life within Head Office.
