Quick-thinking Farmcare apprentice Sam Nelson helped rescue a pensioner from her smoke-filled home after a chip pan caught fire.
Seventeen-year-old Sam, an apprentice craftsperson at Farmcare&#039s Weston Hall Estate, near Crewe, rushed into Nell Parry&#039s home, grabbed the burning pan and took it outside to put out the flames.
Meanwhile Sam&#039s friends found Mrs Parry and made sure she got out of the house safely.
Sam and his friends were visiting Mrs Parry&#039s grandson, but he was away and they could hear a smoke alarm – and knew she would be inside.
"We don&#039t think she realised the pan was on fire but she was fine. The fire brigade seemed pleased with the way we acted," said Sam, who has worked for Farmcare, part of the Co-operative Group, for just over a year.
