A WARNING that an integrated programme to source locally-produced produce for all the Co-op Group's regions may take longer than anticipated was delivered by board member Simon Butler.
In reply to an oral question from the South West Regional Board urging a much speedier progress on the issue, Mr Butler said a new strategy for community sourcing to generate effective community responsiveness within a commercially viable framework is currently being developed by the Group.
He told the meeting: "We hope to be able to share it with you shortly.
"However it must be noted that resources are limited and the business has still to develop a joined-up commercial and marketing approach to local sourcing.
"Until this has been resolved, progress on local sourcing in all regions will remain slow and may well fall short of members' expectations."
