AN awards scheme that recognises people who are standing up to anti-social behaviour has been launched by Scottish Justice Minister and Labour/Co-op MSP Cathy Jamieson.
The scheme ? jointly organised by the Co-op and the Scottish Executive ? is to raise awareness of the commitment of people who tackle anti-social behaviour and make a difference in their area.
Visiting the Safe Barshare Tenants Group in Cumnock and the Co-op store in Auchinleck, Ms Jamieson said: "We know the misery that anti-social behaviour can bring to individuals and communities. That is why the Parliament passed the Anti-social Behaviour Bill last year ? giving measures to deal with behaviour that blights areas.
"We stood up for the law-abiding majority who care about their communities, giving them the tools to stand up to a law-breaking minority who couldn&#039t care less.
"I am delighted we have joined with the Co-op to recognise the efforts of those who have stood up to anti-social behaviour. Stories about anti-social behaviour are depressing ? but the experiences of those who do something about it can be inspiring."
