A £ 3.5 MILLION contract has been awarded to Morrison Construction to build and design Scotmid's head office.
The three storey building, at Newbridge, Edinburgh, will provide 27,500 sq ft of high specification office space that will become the home for 120 staff who will transfer over from the existing Fountainbridge offices.
The 38-week construction programme is now underway and will be ready for Scotmid to occupy the building in October 2005.
John Brodie, acting Chief Executive, Scotmid, said: `Whilst Fountainbridge has served Scotmid and the former St Cuthberts Society well for over 125 years, our business has evolved and expanded in that time and our head office should reflect this development.
`Operating in an ever changing marketplace we have met our challenges head on, with considerable investment made in technology and store refurbishment. This move will support our strategy as we continue to grow, creating an excellent working environment for our head office team, and enabling them to provide the best service to the store network and in turn our customers.
`We look forward to working with Morrison Construction, who were appointed after a highly competitive tendering process, securing the contract from four other contractors. `
