THREE more schools have joined the growing national network of co-operative-sponsored specialist business and enterprise schools.

The DfES has awarded the status to: St Benet Biscop Catholic High School, Wansbeck, Northumberland; Castle Manor Upper School, Haverhill, Suffolk; and Fulston Manor School,Sittingbourne, Kent.

Their sponsorship by the Co-operative Group is part of an investment of almost half a million pounds to teach co-operation as an ethical and socially responsible business alternative.

Now, for the first time, Business and Enterprise schools will formally include lessons on the co-operative, mutual and social enterprise sector as part of the business management curriculum.

`The courses will benefit and so will the students,` says Stephen Youd-Thomas, the Co-operative Group&#039s Head of Social Goals Strategy, `Lessons will now include the many co-operative differences, including values of social responsibility and caring for others, alongside the purely competitive nature of commercial retailing.`
