WEST Midlands Co-op has announced plans to open 12 of its convenience stores for five hours on Christmas Day.
An additional eight c-stores will also be open for limited hours on Boxing Day and on Monday December 27th. The society's 16 supermarkets will also be open for limited hours on the 27th.
Roy Frodsham, General Manager of West Midlands Co-op's food division, said: `Opening during the whole Christmas period has been very successful and popular. Last year, 6,000 customers used West Midlands Co-op stores on December 25th.
`Staff on duty in the branches on Christmas Day volunteer to work a shift. They really get into the festive spirit, singing carols and handing out mince pies before heading home to celebrate with their families.
`Our employees will be paid over the Christmas period in accordance with their contractual entitlements and national guidelines as agreed by the society, Usdaw and the Co-operative Employers Association.`
