THE Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Timms, was in Manchester recently for talks with ABCUL and the wider Co-op Movement, and a visit to StreetCred Credit Union.  Â
ABCUL staff and officers spent an hour with Mr Timms, and discussed in detail how credit unions can help the Government meet their financial inclusion targets. Â
Mr Timms said: "I was pleased to learn more about ABCUL and the work its member credit unions are doing to expand the provision of financial services in their communities. I was very encouraged by the expansion of Benefit Direct accounts, which I saw in action at StreetCred Credit Union in Rochdale.
"I look forward to continuing to work with ABCUL and the rest of the movement as the Government expands on its plans to find solutions to the problems of financial exclusion."
